Special Page Types
Most pages in WebCMS are standard pages — you create them, add content blocks, and publish them. However, a small set of page types have special roles and behave differently from standard pages. Understanding these types helps you configure them correctly and avoid unexpected results.
Assigning a Special Page Type
When creating or editing a page, the Type field (a dropdown in the page editor) determines the page's role. If the Special Page Type dropdown is empty, then the page is a Standard Page. The special types described below should typically already exist in your WebCMS from your initial setup.
Home
The Home page is the root of your website — it is what visitors see at your root URL (yourchurch.com). Only one page can be of type Home at a time.
The Home page has an additional configuration managed separately: the Homepage Hero section, which is the prominent banner at the very top of the page. Configure the hero in WebCMS > Homepage Hero Settings rather than in the page editor itself. See Homepage Hero Settings.
Content blocks work the same on the Home page as on any standard page — you can add and arrange them below the hero section.
Events
The Events page displays your church's calendar of upcoming events. The content of this page is driven automatically by the Calendar module — events are pulled from Planning Center Calendar and displayed in a list of rows. Each row is determined by the tags a calendar event has. You do not add content blocks to manage the event listing; that is handled by the system.
Depending on your selected theme, you can configure the Events page's title and static banner in the page editor. For documentation on managing events themselves, see the Calendar module documentation.
Groups
The Groups page displays your church's small groups or ministry groups from Planning Center Groups (when integrated). Like the Events page, the content is managed by the integration — the group listing is populated automatically. Depending on your selected theme, you can configure the page title and banner but not the group content itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have more than one Home page?
Yes and no. You can create multiple pages that use the Special Page Type of Home Page, but only the most recently published page will be used. This is useful if you want to have a different homepage for a period of time.
What happens if I change a page's type after it is published?
Changing a page type can affect how the page behaves. For example, changing a page to type Home would make it your new homepage. Use caution when changing page types on live pages, and test the result before announcing the change.
