Featured Events

A featured event is an event you designate for prominent display on your church's public website. While all public events appear in the standard event list, the featured event is highlighted in a separate, more visible position — ideal for drawing attention to a major upcoming event.

  • The featured event appears above the standard event list in a highlighted position on your website.
  • Multiple events can be marked as featured at the same time, but only one is displayed on the website at any given moment — the one with the earliest upcoming start time.
  • Marking an event as featured does not change its visibility on the standard event list. It continues to appear there as well.

Use the featured event designation to highlight a major, time-sensitive church-wide event that you want every website visitor to notice. Good candidates include:

  • Easter or Christmas Eve services
  • A church conference or special guest speaker
  • VBS registration or kickoff
  • An annual churchwide outreach event

Avoid leaving the same event featured indefinitely after it has passed, and avoid featuring routine recurring services like weekly worship — save the featured position for events where you specifically want to drive attention.

  • Navigate to Calendar > Events in the Staff Portal.
  • Click the event you want to feature to open its detail view.
  • Click the Make Featured button in the top-right area of the page.
  • The button will change to Make Unfeatured, confirming the event is now featured.
  • The event will appear in the featured position on your website, provided it has the earliest upcoming start time among all currently featured events.

How to Unfeature an Event

  • Open the detail view for the event you want to remove from the featured position.
  • Click the Make Unfeatured button.
  • The event will no longer appear in the featured position. It continues to appear in the standard event list.
  • The website displays the featured event with the earliest upcoming start time.
  • If that event ends, the next featured event (by start time) takes its place automatically.
  • An event remains in the featured position for up to one hour after its end time. This grace period gives visitors attending the event time to see it is still relevant before it disappears from the featured slot.
  • Once all featured events have ended and their grace periods have passed, the featured position on the website is empty and hidden until a new event is marked as featured.

Frequently Asked Questions

I marked a new event as featured, but the previous featured event is still showing on the website. Why?

Both events are marked as featured. The website shows the one with the earliest upcoming start time. If the previous event has not yet ended (or is still within its one-hour grace period), it takes priority. To remove it from the featured position, open it and click Make Unfeatured.

The featured event is still displaying on our website even though the event already happened. Is that a bug?

No. The system keeps featured events visible for up to one hour after their end time as a grace period. After that window passes, the event will no longer appear in the featured position.

Can I feature an event in advance without it showing immediately?

If another featured event is currently active (has not yet ended), the new event will not take the featured position until the active one ends or is unfeatured. You can safely mark events as featured ahead of time.

Do I need to unfeature events after they end?

The featured event disappears from the website automatically after its one-hour grace period. However, it is good practice to unfeature events after they pass so the featured list stays tidy.
